As the long Alaska daylight starts to shorten and the cottonwoods along the Kenai begin to turn gold, we want to pause and say thank you. To every guest who spent a morning on our deck with coffee in hand, watching the river roll by. To every angler who came home grinning (or sunburned, or both) with stories about the one that got away — and the ones that didn't. To every family who made Kenai River Suites part of their Alaska summer. This season was a great one, and we're grateful you were part of it.

Why Fall Anglers Love the Silvers
Coho salmon, better known here as silvers, start pushing into the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers in August and keep the action going well into September and even October. They're famous for a reason:
They fight hard. Silvers are aggressive strikers and acrobatic fighters, known for blistering runs and airborne leaps that make them a favorite among anglers who want a real battle on the line.
The crowds thin out. Summer's king and sockeye rushes bring the biggest crowds of the year. By fall, the pace slows down, the riverbanks feel a little more like yours, and the fishing holes are easier to come by.
The scenery gets even better. Add crisp mornings, fall foliage along the riverbanks, and the first dustings of snow on the mountains, and a day on the water becomes something closer to a postcard.
What to Expect This Time of Year
Soldotna in the fall is quieter, cooler, and arguably one of the most beautiful stretches of the year to be here. Days are still comfortable for fishing, evenings call for a warm layer, and the river itself takes on that unmistakable autumn glow. It's a completely different rhythm from the buzz of July — slower, a little more personal, and just as memorable.
